Game Boy MBC5 Flash Cartridge Circuit Board
Game Boy MBC5 Flash Cartridge Circuit Board
Couldn't load pickup availability
This board is intended for making either homebrew games, or to backup games you already own. This board IS NOT a 1-to-1 replacement for original boards.
This is an unpopulated circuit board you can use to make your own homebrew Game Boy games. You will need to purchase components and solder them to the board yourself. You will also need an MBC5 mapper chip from an original Game Boy or Game Boy Color game that uses the MBC5 mapper. This board uses brand new M29F160 EEPROMs and battery-backed SRAM.
Before you purchase, please read through the GitHub repository, and keep these things in mind:
1) This project requires good soldering experience. You must be proficient in drag soldering, and be able to use hot air or a hot plate.
2) You will need a donor cartridge for the MBC5 mapper chip.
3) You will need a method to flash games onto the EEPROM, like the GBxCart.
4) Full game compatibility is not guaranteed, but I haven't run into any issues. Any incompatibilities will be recorded on the GitHub.
A video tutorial for making one of my Game Boy cartridges can be found on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UwJT3o4NFQ
Unsure what kind of mapper your intended Game Boy game uses? Check out this website for a list: https://catskull.net/gb-rom-database/
You can find example builds at the wiki page of the GitHub: https://github.com/MouseBiteLabs/Game-Boy-Cartridges/wiki/MBC5
This project is open source, so if you would like to order your own from the PCB manufacturer of your choice, the files are available in the GitHub repository. Just be sure to match the exact specifications as listed (thickness, surface finish, etc).
